Hey guys,

Over the last few days I’ve been watching on social media as Birmingham city & Birmingham legion have become bffs in the football community & it lead me to think about football & social media.

Social media has some really bad parts don’t get me wrong it’s not all good but social media has helped football fan interact too!

My first point is Twitter, I’m in the UK & talk football most days be it friends or family but twitter has allowed me to talk to hundreds more people be it in the UK or abroad isn’t that great?

It also has seen people get help & support from the wider football community weather that be fundraising for things or be it helping a person out who’s feeling depressed and the whole community grabs them supports them and that’s a real positive, who says the football community is bad?

Friendship forms too I’m not gonna hide the fact I met some of my best mates via social media who we’ve now been mates years & meet up regularly or even just catch up ok the phone or text, how special is that?

People with medical issues also benefit from this community because even if they can’t physically go to matches they can talk & interact with fellow fans but also others with a disability.

The growth in access at football has been good over the last few years even with none disabled fans recognising the troubles and why social media, people talking.

Social media has a place in football be it general banter, friendship, reducing isolation or allow fans to talk openly about mental health & reaching out surely all are good things?
