It’s been a few weeks now since i heard my cardiologist was retiring from the NHS, I’ve cried many tears over it, my team, my life for the last 15 years there’s no one I trust more than the people who have seen me through some really hard times in my life.
But life has to move on and now I’m getting to the grand old age of 33 in about 4 weeks! I needed to take stock of the situation getting across London in my wheelchair isn’t the easiest it’s easily a 12 hour day from leaving my home in Worcestershire to getting home including car, tubes and taxis and a push through London! Barts isn’t the most accessible for me.
So after the announcement I talked with my GP about looking at moving units, a very scary prospect. After a false start from one unit before finding the team in London, I meed to get it right.
So I started looking at units that are known and then asked opinions from my heart community. One unit was Bristol and from experience I know it’s an easy trip to West Country and so I decided to get in touch.
I emailed one of the liaison nurses at the Unit explaining my situation and my heart condition. And I was looking at moving hospitals. We’ve now exchanged a few emails and we are going to have a telephone conversation later this week and then arrange for me to go down visit the unit and meet some of the team before deciding.
I’ve both sadness and excitement about this new chapter of my heart journey. Let’s hope it’s a positive visit down in Bristol!
