Good evening,
So this really is a part 1 .. of a small journey.
Today I had rehab and to be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect after the two hour chat last time! So off I went to the local community hospital.
I was greeted by the units sister and the OT/physio I’m not sure what her actual title is! Anyway last time we talked about trying a banana board well I told them I wanted to try it!
They had a chat about me between the two appointments and agreed I could try but they had low expectations why?
They said as I crnt use my hands and little arm extension they had low hopes and they thought I had no core strength (well that’s how I interpreted it!).
So they brought out a unit one and explained how to use it. So I looked at it, analysed the situation and listened to the advice.
To everyone’s surprise even my brothers after one false start I got it pretty quick and managed to get from my wheelchair to bed and back and then from wheelchair to seat and back .. pretty smug I was!
It transpires my strength in my hips & core muscles were good enough to get me where I wanted to go!
The professions said I shocked them! They didn’t think it would work. I only wonder why people hadn’t suggested it previously.
So they are ordering one for me and I’ll have a home test next which will be in July. So we’ll see what part 2 of the assessment brings.
